Daniel James: Manchester United winger admits he nearly gave up football as a youngster

Manchester United winger Daniel James has revealed he almost gave up soccer when he was younger as he"was not loving it".
Things could have been different, although james is a Manchester United regular and has six caps for Wales.
Playing soccer quit to be able to spend time with his pals, when he was in the youth academy at Hull.
James told Inside United magazine:"In the start, when I got to nearly 12 years old, I really nearly gave up soccer. I was not enjoying it.
“I was telling my mum and dad:’I’d rather be enjoying with other football’. Or I had been missing out with my partners. I missed out and was coaching nights. I came back from college and needing to go out with my mates, however I had to go training.
“I had a significant meeting with the coaches at Hull [to them] to state ‘No, we think you have the capability and we want you to remain on here’.
“Obviously, I did like my soccer – it was only I was missing out by buddies. But they are the sacrifices which sometimes you have to make as a footballer, to make it. I know now there’s much more."
James went on to combine Swansea City prior to an # 18m move in the summertime to United after spending seven years at boyhood club Hull.
James added two goals to Wales for his tally and has gone on to score from three of United’s five Premier League games this season, and he insists that the worldwide set-up was invaluable to his evolution as a youngster.
He added:"Thankfully, from there, I did remain. However there were times when I wasn’t enjoying it, but I think as an individual I designed a lot, particularly when when I was 14 I went to play my first match for Wales.
“The very first games were from Belgium and Switzerland, which changed me too because I used to play striker in Hull, just click once I moved away with Wales, I played with as a winger.
“I think that is why I’ve come to be a winger today. Otherwise, I think I would play at a different place."
James will probably look to make his debut on Thursday if United confront Astana from the Europa League, before a visit to the London Arena to perform with West Ham on Sunday, live on Sky Sports Premier League.
